Though best known as the designer of William Randolph Hearst’s lavish San Simeon estate (1919)\, Morgan built an additional 700 structures throughout the west. Her life and career are a story intersecting with the end of the Gilded Age\, both in the style of her architecture and her experiences. A prevailing myth maintains that Morgan destroyed her personal papers. Victoria Kastner\, author of the new biography “Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect\,” will refute this legend and reveal the fascinating story of Julia Morgan’s private life\, as well as discuss the architect’s inspiring public career. DESCRIPTION:The Annenberg Community Beach House Kicked off Women’s History Month with a Virtual Lecture on Sunday\, March 6\, 2022 at 1 p.m. During my presentation\, I shared many details from my new book\, “Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect\,” published by Chronicle Books and available everywhere.
