SUMMARY:ICAA SoCal\, Lecture and Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art\, Southern California (ICAA SoCal) is a forum of professionals and enthusiasts who come together to share their love and commitment to the timeless principles of beauty\, proportion\, and observation that are embodied in classicism. Our members include renowned architects\, interior and landscape designers\, students\, builders\, artisans\, historians\, artists\, enthusiasts and vendors\, among others. We celebrate the unique regional identity of Southern California’s classical architecture and design. We invite you to learn and grow with us. \nPlease join the ICAA Southern California in welcoming Victoria Kastner as she discusses trailblazing architect Julia Morgan. The first licensed female architect in California\, Morgan is best known for the legendary Hearst Castle in San Simeon\, but leaves a legacy of beautiful classical buildings\, primarily within California. \nArchitectural historian Victoria Kastner will speak about her book\, Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect\, which provides the first in-depth look at Morgan’s fascinating private life\, as well as her remarkable career. Julia Morgan was a lifelong trailblazer. In 1902 she became the first woman to graduate from the renowned architecture program at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1904 she became California’s first licensed female architect. And in 2014 the American Institute of Architects posthumously awarded her the Gold Medal\, as its first female recipient. \nBest known as the designer of William Randolph Hearst’s lavish estate at San Simeon\, she built an astonishing 700 additional projects throughout the west. Victoria will share new information about many of these buildings\, as well as reveal the triumphs and tragedies that filled Julia Morgan’s inspiring personal life. \nThis event will be held at the Ben Soleimani Los Angeles Showroom at 8650 Melrose Avenue on September 21\, 2023\, at 7 p.m. \nICAA Member Price: $25\nNon-Member Price: $40 \nClick here to register \nPlease note\, registration will close one day prior to event. \n
