The Morgan family had visited Santa Cruz before 1895. This time, Julia remained in Oakland, continuing her work for Bernard Maybeck. Eliza kept Julia posted on their activities: “Then we . . .went to the Beach which is just as it was only between the Miller’s Bath House & the old Dolphin is built a very large Plunge Bath.” This was the Neptune Casino, which is on the right in this photograph from the late 1890s.
