About UC Berkeley’s South Hall

South Hall was constructed in 1873, five years after the University of California was established. It was built in the style known as Second Empire, and features elaborate ornamentation in brick and wrought iron. There is also a suggestion of Parisian architecture in its bulls-eye windows and mansard roof.
